How we work

1.Stage;
Collection of Sufficient and Necessary Information

At this stage, the requirements and needs of the architects and investors for this project as well as the information such as the project's structure, function and location, the planned lighting budget, user needs should be analyzed ideally. Because, the main theme of the project will be created according to the results of this analysis. In addition to information exchange, all arguments (projects, visuals, knowledge of materials to be used etc.) should be provided to pass to the next stage.

2. Stage;
Concept Design    

Concept file explains primarily what kind of design is under consideration and what is the targeted results with this design. This stage is the transformation of the architect's thoughts and desires into lighting solutions. Concept design sketches with the application samples and the photos help the designer and architect to generate an idea about the project and the project is developed out of this stage.

Schematic Design    

After the decision of the concept design, the schematic design stage begins. At this stage, in accordance with the negotiations and architectural demands in the coordination meetings, with performing the lighting calculations, the information about which fixtures can be provided for the selected concept, positioning of these fixtures on plan, section and elevations are included. If the light scenarios and lighting control will be used, it is decided at this stage and developed.

4. Stage;
Design Development and Tender Documents Formation     

At this stage which the design details are prepared, the positioning of the selected fixtures in plan and sections, the technical characteristics of fixtures to be used, lamp types and colors to be used and if any fittings accessories to be used are specified with all the details. Lighting control projects are prepared. Visualization studies belonging to the project and preparation of tender documents are formed at this stage.

Control and Site Consulting    

In this study, the correct implementation on site which is involved in the project, concept and specification file with all details, is ensured. During the procurement process, the compliance between the technical specifications of the fixtures which are provided by the contractor and the technical specifications indicated in the project is inspected. During the assembly process, the accuracy control of the assembly details and necessary fixture-light arrangements are realized. By visiting the site in the needed periods, the problem-free process of the implementation team is maintained.

ALD ( Artificial Lighting Design) Lighting was established to offer independent lighting design and lighting consulting services in 2010 by Architectt, M.Sc.  Onur YIGIT, Electrical Engineer Ebru OZLU and Electrical Engineer Dilek SAHIN who has a master’s degree on the subject of lighting in Building Physics Department.  Since 2014, the company has been managed by Dilek SAHIN and Ebru OZLU.

We principally handle the lighting object in a wide scope, from the formal and functional properties to the structural features, for performing architectural lighting designs along with the rules and techniques specified by “International Lighting Standards”  regarding lighting.

We adapt to the architectural character and usage for creating the design on the one hand, we care about the integration of the light sources provided for the design with the architecture, the adaptation with form, materials, color  and position as far as possible. In addition, we aim to create the designs considering the investment costs and operating costs with energy efficient,  environmentally friendly, sustainable principles in our projects.
Since the user of the lighting is substantially human, we pay attention to  the users' visual perception, psychological feelings and thoughts as well as the targeting of the specific lighting surfaces and luminance ratios in the lighting designs considering not only the objective measurements, but also the subjective assessments in the projects related to the lighting techniques.

Nonbeing of any brand representative or any partnership with manufacturer firm enables us to deal flexibly in our projects and to assign a specific identity for each project, accordingly to manifest our creative works. We generate solutions compatible with the architecture by analyzing the architectural office, the desires and the needs of the investor and other disciplines in the project.

“Lighting means the visibility verification of the light source to an object or casting light to a particular environment.” Lighting, in a short definition, is “to implement light in order to be able to maintain the vision of the objects and environment properly.”

“Lighting Design means the illumination of the buildings or places by using the lighting techniques and rules, science, art, events, preferences and previous experiences.” Lighting Design, in a short definition, is “art and science of environmental luminance of human.”

Lighting Designer is the person who presents the needs of the location users (physical and emotional comfort, flexibility, ambiance, functionality, feel safe, etc.), selects the most appropriate energy efficient and economical product (energy saving, long life, minimal use of materials, user friendly product selection ), generates innovative lighting solutions by  combining function and aesthetics, resolves the pending lighting problems for indoor and outdoor places, creates lighting plans that support and strengthen  the architectural creativity and functionality.”

Lighting Designer is the person who minimizes the total cost,  presents an objective design solution to maintain the best possible energy saving and also the best possible visual and thermal performance in the structural and aesthetic constraints, makes a good analysis to take advantage of the daylight as much as possible to ensure energy efficiency and combines the designs with the lighting control. The most important issue to note is that, "Lighting saving is done without lighting or with insufficient lighting! However, energy saving is not done! "
